Choose a video container or extract its audio
Video converters create a supported output such as MP4, MOV or WMV, extract a soundtrack as MP3 or WAV, or turn a short clip into a GIF. Select the exact source-to-output tool for the task.
A filename extension describes a container, while the video and audio inside use codecs. The tool must be able to decode those codecs. Browser memory and long or complex clips can limit conversion.
Common questions
Is changing a video container the same as changing its codec?
No. MP4, MOV and MKV are containers that can hold different codecs. A converter may re-encode the streams to create its output, so compatibility and quality depend on the particular tool and source.
Will an MP3 or WAV download keep the video picture?
No. Those audio outputs contain the extracted soundtrack. Keep the original video if you also need its picture, subtitles or other tracks.
